Review “American Dirt” by Jeanine Cummins

I gave this book a 3 star rating. It is an important topic, but it just did not work for me.

I am torn with this book with the rating. It really fell flat for me.

One thing that I was disappointed in was not seeing life before the massacre. I really wanted to see her life with her family prior to the terrible tragedy or the journey that followed. Or even flashbacks to her happy family.

Although, I rooted for the family to get the United States, the story drug on and on. The beginning of the book hooked me and it was action packed. But I just could not get into this novel.

It stated that it was the “Grapes of Wrath” of our times. This was FAR from the truth. I do not see any comparisons to that novel whatsoever.

I have stayed away from any bad press about this novel so I could read it and not be influenced by others. I am going to read all the articles about this novel here shortly, but I did not want my review to be influenced by any negative press.
