Review of “A Torch Against The Night” by Sabaa Tahir (Ember in the Ashes: Book 2)

I did not like this book as much as the 1st one. But it was enjoyable. This is not my typical genre. I am rating this book a 3.5- 4 star review.

I do not want to give too much away as this is the 2nd in the series. But basically Elias and Laia are running for their lives and to save her brother from Kauf (prison). They are running from the Emperor Marcus who sent Helene to find and kill Elias. They are also running from the Commandant and the Warden of Kauf as they try to break her brother out. Helene is struggling with killing Elias as they are friends. She has a lot of internal struggle with that.

It was action packed. It was fact paced and I enjoy a little break from that especially in a book this size. All the characters are back in this book which was nice. I wish that there were more stories about the characters themselves rather than action around them (going back to the slower paced scenes every once in a while).  It ended on a cliffhanger but not like the 1st one. But enough for me to keep reading the series to find out what will happen. Overall, I enjoyed it. Two down- two more to go!
