Quarantine tips for readers

Missing your book club or lonely? Try Zoom or Skype to chat about your books with your book club members. Also, I chat on Facebook a lot with my friends. I pick a daily or weekly set amount of pages or chapters and discuss books with them.

Go online to book forums like Bookish.com or Goodreads.com. You can chat about books there.

You can also join the many book clubs on social media, start a bookstagram, create a blog, etc.

Having trouble concentrating? Try mediating. Before I read, I always turn off all electronic devices, including my phone. Even if I use my Kindle, I still do not like to have any screen on at least 5 to 10 minutes prior to me reading. I have also downloaded apps to help me mediate. The soothing music helps.

Library closed? Try Libby/Overdrive, Hoopla, Netgalley, Edelweiss, or just your own personal library. All are typically digital books. You can read from your phone for Libby/overdrive, Kindle app, or download the books from Netgalley and Edelweiss on your computer. Try an audio book from there is you do not have a digital reading.

Depressed? Try an upbeat novel or an inspirational book!

No alone time? Read before bed. I head to bed about 1 hour to 30 minutes before bed with the sole purpose to read. It gives me that alone time that I need to concentrate and “zone out.” It also helps me to sleep. With what is happening around the world, it is nice to think about nothing else besides me reading a good book!

Stay safe, everyone! Flatten the curve and stay home to read. Happy reading, book nerds!
