Overall: 4.5 star review
Summary:
Memoir of Colin Jost. He is best known for being on Weekend Update on SNL (Saturday Night Live) and a writer on that show. He is also married to Scarlett Johansson.
My thoughts:
I read this book so quickly. I started with the audiobook and finished with the actual book. He narrates the audiobook. He has some pictures in his book that he references. I thought there would be more pictures of him throughout the book.
This book was funny! I laughed out loud a few times, which never happens to me. He is also a very talented writer. I really enjoyed all of his stories. A part of the book was a little blah, but overall his stories were funny! In the mix of his funny stories, there were also serious ones too. The tales of his mother (a firefighter who was on ground zero on 9/11) really had me crying.
He started out with his childhood. I loved his childhood stories going up on Staten Island. Then his stories from college, then to his career on SNL. But I noticed that he never really talked about his personal life as an adult. Why dive into your personal life as a child but leave it out as an adult. Married life, fatherhood, being in the spotlight, etc. This is the one reason that I did not give it a 5-star rating.
I never wactch SNL. So really I only knew Colin from being Scarlett’s husband. But after reading this book, I may need to start watching some SNL or listen to his stand-up.
This book does talk politics (2020). If you do not want to read that, you can skip over it. It is not the entire book.
