Review of “An Ember in the Ashes” by Sabaa Tahir

This is a story about the Marital Empire. One girl is a spy in the empire. She is spying for the resistance in order to have them get her brother out of jail. Her name is Laia. She meets Elias. He is a “mask.” He is attending a training to become a solider for the martials. But Elias is not happy about it. He wants to be free. He connects with Laia throughout the story. But for the most part, their stories are separate but connect at the end.

I really like the characters in this novel. Typically, novels are too much fantasy for me to follow. But this book was not. I really connected to the characters and enjoyed this book a lot. I liked it so much that I actually got the 2^nd book in the series! It was very well written as well. I have to admit this may be the 1^st fantasy novel that I enjoyed in a long time.
