Overall: 3/5 Stars
Summary of review:
This is a funny and charming book about motherhood.
Summary:
Lanie is a mother of 3 boys under the age of 5. Her family is moving as her husband has accepted a job. She leaves her home state of Texas away from her family and friends. With the move, now she feels as though she has no adults in her life to talk to.
She decides to start doing things for herself. She starts to go to the gym to feel better about her body. She signs herself up for a photography class. She starts to meet adults to befriend. Lanie struggles with doing more things for herself but also being the mother and wife that her family needs.
This book is very humorous at times!
My thoughts:
I am a HUGE fan of Katherine Center. I decided to start reading some of her earlier works. You can really tell how far she has come from her earlier works to the ones that are being released now.
I cannot dislike a book from Katherine Center. Her characters are always so complex, and her writing is always great!
I enjoyed reading about the main character’s struggles (which is an odd thing to say). But Katherine Center writes about her struggles with humor. Although some of the problems were relatable, this book went from humous to serious right away. Some of the issues that she talks about is body issues, communication issues with her husband, and finding herself. She also has 3 small children under 5 years old with a husband who works all the time and is career-driven.
I thought the ending fell flat for me. Although it was a happy ending, I wanted her to finally be at peace with her body, family, herself, etc.
Conclusion:
I would recommend this novel if you are looking for a quick and funny read. But if you want to read a better book by Katherine Center, do not start with this novel.
Trigger warning: Self-esteem and body issues
