Everyone has watched a Rom-Com once in their life! From Pretty Woman to Hitch. People either admit they love Rom-Com novels or secretly hide their love of them (guilty pleasure).
Rom-Com novels are typically a fast and easy read for me. But I have a soft spot in my heart for a good romantic comedy especially this time of the year! So many of these books are turned into movies on the small, large, or even streaming screens! Netflix is a huge fan of turning Rom-Coms into TV shows or movies! I just adore curling up on the couch to either read or watch a Rom-Com!
A Rom-Com, or a Romantic comedy, is a subgenre of comedy. They are lighthearted with a humorous plot that has a romance as the center of it all. A classic example of a Rom-Com is “Bridget Jone’s Diary.” The main characters typically end up together but are met with different and funny obstacles that occur along the way.
Rom-Coms can be published for YA or Adult fiction. I just read “Let It Snow” (review is posted on this blog) which is YA.
Here are some of the Rom-Coms that I have read in 2018-2019. These are not a list of the best, just a list of books that I have read that fits this genre.
“Well Met” by Jen DeLuca
“No Judgement” by Meg Cabot
Any book by Jasmine Guillory, Christina Lauren (“Unhoneymooners”), or Sophie Kinsella (who is not my favorite in this genre)
“Evvie Drake Starts Over” by Linda Holmes
“Waiting for Tom Hanks” by Kerry Winfrey
“The Flat Share” by Beth O’Leary
“The Simple Wild” by K.A. Tucker
“Dumpin’” by Julie Murphy
“One Day in December” by Josie Silver
Granted there are so many more famous Rom-Com novels out there. I just wanted to give you examples of recent novels.
In conclusion, reading Rom-Coms to me is a guilty pleasure! I adore them, but rarely discuss them with other people. If I see a Netflix movie, I rush to read the books before I watch it! They are quick reads, but I enjoy every minute of them!
Happy reading, Book Nerds!
