This was a slow burn, but in a good way. The story is told from multiple perspectives, which I really liked—it gave a fuller picture of what was going on and helped build that quiet tension throughout. It’s a mystery, but not your typical whodunit. There’s a small twist near the end that ties things together in a subtle but satisfying way.
The characters were one of the highlights for me. They’re well-rounded and detailed, with believable backstories and motivations. You really get to understand them over time, and that made the slower pacing feel more intentional and meaningful.
The setting was also a standout. It takes place in Maine, and as a hiker, I loved the trail aspect. The survival elements and the way the wilderness was described felt authentic—it really pulled me in. If you enjoy character-driven stories with a strong sense of place, this one’s worth picking up.
